Today's Game Notes

LEADING OFF--The Travs look for a fifth straight win as they open a series against Frisco.

LAST TIME OUT--Arkansas dominated from start to finish in a 9-2 win over Tulsa on Sunday afternoon...the Travs started fast with a three- run first inning and added three more in the third inning and two in the fourth...Juan Mercedes struck out five of the first six Tulsa hitters setting the tone on the mound...four Travs finished with multi-hit games while Hogan Windish scored three runs and Grant Witherspoon drove in three.

YOUNG AND STREAKING--20-year old Cole Young racked up another hit last night and has had at least one hit in each of the first nine games of the season...has three multi-hit efforts...he is the only Traveler to hit in every game they have played...Young had a double in each of the first three games of the Tulsa series...he is the youngest current active player in the Texas League.

BYRD WATCHING--Robbie “Byrd” Tenerowicz is back for a second season with addition to his outstanding hitting numbers last year, Byrd tied the franchise single season hit by pitch record getting plunked 21 times in only 87 games...he sits just 13 beanings shy of the Travs career mark held by Mike Collins (2008-09) after getting hit twice already in this series.

THE PEN IS MIGHTIER--In the club’s five wins last week, the relievers allowed only two earned runs over a cumulative 25 innings... surrendered 14 hits, 16 walks and two unearned runs in those innings with 30 strikeouts...the lone time last week the ‘pen has been hit was on Wednesday when they were pressed into service in the first inning and got knocked for eight runs over 6.2 IP.

ON THE RISE--11 Travs made their Double-A debuts in the season opening series...headlining that group are the Mariners top two prospects INF Cole Young and C
Harry Ford who are ranked 36th and 37th overall in baseball by as well as RHP Logan Evans, drafted just last season who made the Opening Night start for the club.

FAMILIAR FACES--The 28 man season opening roster for the Travs has 12 players who have previously suited up for Arkansas...six hitters return with C Jake Anchia and INF Kaden Polcovich each entering their fourth year...also back are 1B Tyler Locklear, OF Spencer Packard, OF Alberto Rodriguez and INF Robbie Tenerowicz...on the mound, RHPs Blas Castano and Juan Mercedes return to the rotation with RHP Travis Kuhn and LHP Ben Onyshko back in the bullpen...LHP Peyton Alford who was with the club in 2022 and the playoff s last year and RHP Reid Morgan who spent half of 2021 with Arkansas are also with the club.

THE SCHEDULE--The 2024 Texas League schedule has Arkansas hosting all nine league opponents for the second consecutive season with two visits each from Frisco, Northwest Arkansas, San Antonio and Springfield...the Travs will go on the road to each division rival for two series and make one trip to four of the five teams in the South...their most common opponent is their in-state rival Naturals with 24 matchups... the only other opponent they play more than 20 times is the Springfield Cardinals with 21 games including 12 on the road.

PROSPECTING--The Travelers active roster is populated with five of the Mariners top 30 prospects based on the MLB Pipeline rankings... topping the list are SS Cole Young, top ranked in the system and #36 overall in baseball and C Harry Ford, second ranked in the system and #37 overall...also among Seattle’s top 30 are 1B Tyler Locklear (8), RHP Logan Evans (20) and OF Alberto Rodriguez (24).

LET’S RIDE--The Frisco RoughRiders (Texas Rangers) are red hot to open the season and tied for first place in the South Division with Midland...managed by Carlos Cardoza for the second consecutive season...their active roster has four of the Rangers top 30 prospects according to Abimelec Ortiz tops the list at #12 and is joined by RHP Emiliano Teodo (#16), OF Aaron Zavala (#21) and RHP Dane Acker (#28).
