BRADENTON, Fla. — Justin Meis struck out a career-high ten batters on Friday night for the Marauders, who cruised to a 4-1 win over the Daytona Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Marauders (8-5). Meis (2-1) retired fourteen of the sixteen batters he faced across five innings, allowing only a first-inning double and a third-inning infield single, both by Tortugas leadoff hitter Gus Steiger. Meis finished his outing by striking out the side in order in the fifth.

Marauders relievers Wilkin Ramos, Cristian Charle, and Carlos Lomeli recorded two strikeouts each, combining with Meis for 16 strikeouts, a season-high for Bradenton pitching. Lomeli earned his first career save with a scoreless ninth, allowing only a one-out hit-by-pitch.

Bradenton pieced together a second-inning threat against Tortugas (6-7) starter Julian Aguiar (1-1). Wyatt Hendrie reached on an error and Juan Jerez walked, and after a wild pitch allowed both men to advance one base, Luke Brown lined a two-run single to left field. Brown then advanced one base each on singles by Randy Romero and Tsung-Che Cheng and scored from third on a wild pitch by Aguiar, giving the Marauders a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Marauders loaded the bases against Aguiar with none out on two singles and a walk. Jacob Gonzalez lifted a sacrifice fly to deep left field, allowing Brown to score from third to stretch Bradenton’s advantage to 4-0.

Gonzalez would finish 0-for-3 in the game, ending his team-best hit streak at ten games.

Daytona managed its only run of the game in the seventh inning against Ramos. Ruben Ibarra reached second base on a two-out throwing error by Marauders third baseman Juan Jerez, and Yerlin Confidan plated Ibarra with a single to left field.

Four Marauders players—Bowen, Brown, Cheng, and Romero—recorded two hits each in the game.

The series continues Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RHP Po-Yu Chen will start for the Marauders against RHP Hunter Parks for the Tortugas.
