Port St. Lucie, FL — The Dunedin Blue Jays (36-37, 4-3) used the last three frames to take the lead, and put the game out of reach, beating the St. Lucie Mets (26-45, 2-4) at Clover Park, 10-3.

Dunedin opened up the scoring in the top of the second. Roque Salinas lead off with a double, immediately being brought in to score on an RBI-single by Jeff Wehler. Wehler then stole second, and advanced to third on a balk. After a walk drawn by Jaden Rudd, Glenn Santiago sacrificed himself on a fly out, bringing in Wehler to double Dunedin’s lead.

With a two-run cushion, Blue Jays’ starter LHP Kendry Rojas kept St. Lucie off the board through the first three innings. But in the fourth, Rojas made his only mistake. With two outs, Rojas hung up an 0-2 slider to Vincent Perozo and paid for it. St. Lucie’s catcher blasted it over the right field wall for a solo shot, putting the Mets on the board, and a blemish on Rojas’ final line. After a rougher month of June, Rojas ended his first start of July with four innings, just one run allowed with five strikeouts and his team up 2-1.

The DJays turned to MiLB-rehabber LHP Brody Rodning for the fifth and sixth innings. After getting through the fifth with just a walk allowed, Rodning ran into some trouble in the sixth. St. Lucie put their first two hitter aboard on an error and a hit-by-pitch, and after Rodning got the first out, another walk so the Mets load the bases. Dunedin opted to bring in LHP Harry Rutkowski to try and get out of the jam, but after a three-pitch strikeout for the second out, Rutkowski issued a walk on a full count, bringing in the tying run. Rutkowski would get out of the inning with no further damage, heading to the seventh tied 2-2.

That’s when the Blue Jays lineup went to work. Wehler lead the inning off with a double, his third hit of the night, and Rudd followed with a single, putting the first two men aboard for Dunedin. Angel Del Rosario stepped in, taking his first at-bat after replacing Santiago defensively in left field. After working a 2-1 count, Del Rosario mashed an inside fastball for his third home run of the year, a three-run shot to put Dunedin back up, 5-2.

That sparked an offensive burst by the Blue Jays, scoring eight runs over the final three innings to put the game well out of reach. Wehler and Del Rosario both stuck out among the crowd with their performances at the plate. Del Rosario made the most of his three at-bats, going 2-for-3, adding an RBI-double to his home run. And somehow, Wehler might’ve out performed him. Wehler ended his day 5-for-5, two doubles, a triple, two stolen bases, three RBI, and four runs scored. With the performance Saturday night, Wehler raised his average over one hundred points, .267 to .371.

With the win, Dunedin clinches at least a series-split, with two chance to get their second series-win of the season, and first of the second half. The two teams meet again on Sunday for a day game, with first pitch scheduled for 12:10 p.m.
