FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2022) – The Clearwater Threshers extended their winning streak to eight games after a 6-1 win over the Mighty Mussels at Hammond Stadium Wednesday.

Kendall Simmons was a thorn in Fort Myer’s side all night long, putting together a 3-for-5 effort with two doubles and a home run.

In a scoreless top of the first, Simmons doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on a single by Yhoswar Garcia. With one out, Jadiel Sanchez lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, to score Simmons and make it 1-0 Clearwater (9-8).

In the bottom half of the inning, the Mussels drew two walks by Kyler Fedko and Noah Miller. Fedko advanced on a fly out to right field by Emmanuel Rodriguez which allowed Keoni Cavaco to score Fedko on a ground out to third base.

In the top of the third inning, Simmons launched a solo home run onto the left field berm to extend Clearwater’s lead to 2-1.

The top of the fourth was led off with a single by Arturo De Freitas, followed by another single from Marcus Lee Sang. Both players came around to score on a base hit by Wilfredo Flores, moving Clearwater’s lead to 4-1.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jamari Baylor doubled down the left field line. Then Simmons doubled into the right field gap, scoring Baylor to extend the Threshers’ lead to 5-1. Yhoswar Garcia then singled to move runners to the corners. Shortly thereafter, Simmons scored on an errant pickoff throw.

Juan Mendez dealt two perfect innings, striking out three batters without allowing any runs.

The Mussels will turn to RHP John Stankiewicz (2-0, 1.13) on Thursday in game three of the six-game set. LHP Jordi Martinez (Season Debut) will take the bump for the Threshers. Coverage starts at 6:45 pm on Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
