Early home runs powered the Jupiter Hammerheads to their first win in 2022. On Saturday night, Jupiter beat their neighbors, the Palm Beach Cardinals, 6-4 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

The Hammerheads scored all six runs by the fourth inning and were able to hold off the Cardinals' rally down the stretch. The scoring started early with a two-run first inning. Starting second basemen Javier Sanoja drove in Kahlil Watson with a sharp single. A couple of batters later Brady Allen blasted the first home run for the Hammerheads this season. The solo shot was Allenโ€™s first professional home run after being selected in the 5th round of the 2021 draft. The University of South Carolina product has started both games for Jupiter this season.

Following Allenโ€™s lead, Watson would hit his first professional home run in the fourth inning, this time a three-run blast. The 16th overall pick from last year is slated as the Marlins' top overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Watson drove in three runs in the game and finished 2-4 on the night.

Palm Beach battled back after going down 6-0 and put together four runs in the last three frames. With the tying run at the plate in the ninth, Ryan Holgate hit a groundball to first base to secure the win for Jupiter.

On the mound, Gabe Beirman earned the start. The Indiana native allowed only three hits in 4.1 innings pitched. The 2021 draftee struck out five Cardinals in his 2022 debut. Following Beirman was Laurbert Arias. The Venezuelan righty earned the win after pitching 2.1 innings of one-hit baseball. Chandler Jozwiak pitched the eighth while Yoilan Quinonez closed the game. Quinonez earned the save.

The Hammerheads and Cardinals will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm at RDCS.
