The River Bandits Book Buddies is an incentive-based reading program that promotes reading among youth in the community. The program begins in February and ends in April. The River Bandits and their mascot Rascal visit schools to kick off the program and explain to students that if they complete their program, then they get to come to a free River Bandits game!
Since the program is designed to provide incentives for students to meet reading goals it can be easily integrated into ongoing lesson plans. The teachers retain the ability to set the reading goals and determine whether they have been met, and it is up to their discretion to give students second chances in order to help them complete the program successfully.
