Spokane Indians Visit Young Patients at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital

Spokane, Wash. - Spokane Indians players and front office staff had the incredible privilege of spending the morning with patients at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital as part of the Molina Healthcare Care-A-Van on Wednesday, June 21st. OTTO the Mascot, Jarrod Cande, Mason Green, and AJ Lewis surprised the patients and their families with Spokane Indians gear, tickets to a future game at Avista Stadium, and most importantly, laughter!
“Visiting the Children’s Hospital was very humbling, and getting to spend time with the children was a one-of-a-kind experience. Seeing them smile and laugh made my day,” said Spokane left-hander Mason Green. “They are going through so much adversity in their lives, and for them to show courage and strength in the face of everything is truly powerful.”
Players got the opportunity to interact with young patients in General Pediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as a visit to the Behavioral and Educational Skills Training (BEST) Program. Later that night, Providence caregivers filled the stands at Avista Stadium to celebrate Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital’s 20th birthday with a young Providence patient named (TBD) throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. The Indians provided the finishing touches to a special day as Jordan Beck delivered a walk-off home run for a thrilling 6-5 win for the home team.
“Making a difference in other’s lives is what helps me put my life in perspective,” said Indians utility player A.J. Lewis. “Visiting the hospital reminded me that no matter what life throws at you, as long as you are breathing and able to go on, you should be grateful.”
