The Wilmington Blue Rocks (41-55) were outdueled by the Hudson Valley Renegades (55-43) on Wednesday, August 2, dropping game two of their six-game series by a final score of 3-0.

This game was largely a pitcher’s duel, with Hudson Valley breaking open the scoring in the top of the fourth via a sacrifice fly by Anthony Garcia. That wound up being all they needed, but the Renegades were able to tack on insurance in the fifth and eighth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Grant Richardson absolutely crushed his 11th round-tripper of the season to deep right field. Three innings later, Benjamin Cowles came through with an RBI single to give the Renegades a permanent 3-0 lead.

Both starting pitchers were excellent. In his third start at A+, the Rocks’ Brad Lord tossed six innings of two-run ball (one earned), allowing just four hits while striking out five. For the Renegades, Baron Stuart was equally dominant, compiling six shutout innings while also allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Carter Kieboom got his first hit in his rehab stint with Wilmington, going 1-3 before being pulled in the fifth inning. Also recording hits were Murphy Stehly, Jeremy De La Rosa, Will Frizzell, and Branden Boissiere. The Rocks’ lineup was only able to secure five hits throughout the game, and the defense committed two errors in the field.

The Blue Rocks will look to gain the upper-hand in game three on Thursday, August 3 at 6:35 p.m. EST.
